24 / 04 / 2019

More than 160 representatives of the scientific industry community, government agencies, enterprises, institutes, and industry associations gathered at Expocentre for the 9th Russian Conference Rubber 2019: Traditions and Innovations with foreign participants held as part of the supporting program of the 22nd international exhibition Tires & Rubber 2019.

The conference was organised by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Elastomers Association, Scientific and Research Institute of Elastomeric Materials and Articles (NIIEMI), Lebedev Institute of Synthetic Rubber, Russian Technological University with assistance of Expocentre AO and media support of Kauchuk i Rezina Journal.

According to the feedback from the participants, the conference has become a significant traditional professional event allowing for elastomer specialists to exchange information, sum up the results, and get acquainted with new developments.

An analytical review of the development of synthetic rubber production in Russia in 2018 and the previous 10-year period was presented by PhD in Chemistry Vladimir Aksenov. According to the data cited by him, the total world capacity of synthetic rubbers (SR) production grew by almost 2% over the year, and is currently about 20.5 million tonnes. In 2018, the SR production in our country amounted to almost 1.4 million tonnes which is by 0.4% more than in 2017. The industry leaders are Nizhnekamskneftekhim with 52% of the total production volume, and three Sibur Holding companies with about 36%.

When summing up the results, the expert noted that the period from 2000 to 2011 was not easy for the Russian SR industry, but from 2012 the rise of the rubber business in Russia began.

The conference Rubber 2019: Traditions and Innovations was held on April 24-25. Its section meetings were devoted to the analysis of the state of affairs and current challenges in various segments of polymer chemistry, production development trends and the market of tires, rubber, rubber goods, and raw materials for their manufacture in the world and in Russia, with regard to resource saving and environment protection as well as changing requirements of consumers.
